OUTCOMES

Zero fossil-fuel heating and DHW on site

Zero production downtime

Repeat project instructed

A complete heating and domestic hot water decarbonisation project delivered within a live pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, removing fossil-fuel plant and introducing heat pump and DX technologies while maintaining uninterrupted production throughout the changeover.

Challenge

The client required its heating and domestic hot water infrastructure to be decarbonised within a live pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. Existing fossil-fuel plant needed to be removed and replaced with low-carbon technologies, while maintaining heating and hot water services and avoiding disruption to production.

Solution

Emtec Climate Solutions delivered the complete heating and hot water decarbonisation package. Existing gas boilers, calorifiers and associated pipework were removed. A new cascade heating arrangement combining air-to-water and water-to-water heat pumps was installed, two rooftop AHUs were converted from LTHW coils to DX refrigerant coils served by external Daikin heat pumps, and the domestic hot water plant was replaced with two Mitsubishi Ecodan air source heat pumps and two new 300-litre cylinders. The works were carefully phased around the live production environment.

Result

The project removed the site’s fossil-fuel heating and domestic hot water plant while maintaining full production continuity with zero downtime. The completed installation introduced low-carbon heating, DX AHU heating/cooling and heat-pump domestic hot water systems. Following the successful delivery, further work was instructed across additional client facilities.
